Information for Volunteers

Midland Memorial Hospital’s Auxiliary Department has origins that are deeply rooted in the Midland Community and dates back to January 1950, months before the hospital opened its doors in July 1950. The 5013C organization’s main purpose is to provide volunteer assistance for non-professional tasks within the hospital. Another component of this invaluable department is the funding they provide to MMH for the purchase of medical equipment. Our exceptional volunteers have contributed over $2.9 million in equipment and over $13 million in volunteer hours, (calculated at minimum wage).

Volunteer Program
Volunteers are required to attend orientation, annual education updates, wear uniforms, pay $7 for annual dues and attend 5 general meetings per year. Orientations for new volunteers are held monthly.

There are currently 190 adult members who dedicate a minimum of three hours once a week, in 15 different areas between the Main and West Campus.

Junior volunteers, ages 15-18, gain community service experience by working in the gift shops, at the information desks, and other places throughout the hospital.

Service award pins are presented for donated service. A pin represents the first 100 hours. Thereafter, bars are given to represent each 500-hour increment of time.

The auxiliary elects five officers each year for a leadership team that meets on a monthly basis. This team along with chairmen from various departments within Auxiliary comprises the Executive Board, which is responsible for decision making for the Auxiliary Department.

Auxiliary Accomplishments

Over the course of ten years, the Auxiliary has given $1,250,000 of equipment every 18 months. The most recent equipment purchase was a computer and monitor in the amount of $109,000, for the West Campus Labor and Delivery. Other great and remarkable investments, include $117, 017 for Renal Dialysis equipment, $125,000 Health Science Library, $112,000 for new ambulances, a $225,000 Breast Biopsy machine and state-of-the-art ultra sound machines for $240,000! These donations are made possible from revenue generated from gift shop, pop corn and payroll deduction sales!

Educational Program
The Midland Memorial Hospital Explorer Medical Post is organized through the auxiliary department and is a function of the Boy Scouts of America. The program is open to youths ages 15-19. The main purpose of the group is career exploration of the various medical fields available. Meetings are held twice monthly. Cost is $25 per year.
