Phillip Guillen, MD is a West Texas based orthopaedic surgeon who also sub specialized with a fellowship in hand and upper extremity training. He is trained to provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art surgery for the bones, joints, tendons, nerves and muscles of the hand and upper extremity. He additionally diagnosis and treats a wide range of conditions and injuries affecting the wrist, elbow, shoulder and also general pediatric upper extremity injuries and conditions.

Most recently, he completed a hand surgery fellowship at the prestigious Stony Brook Medical Center in Long Island, N.Y., where he worked under the guidance of the inventor of xiaflex for dupytren’s contracture, Dr. Lawrence Hurst.

He wanted to bring world-class training and innovative surgical techniques from around the country to his practice. He is known for an unparalleled commitment and highly personalized care for his patients of all ages in Texas. Dr. Guillen is also closely involved with clinical investigation and research, having published numerous research articles on hand and upper extremity conditions being presented both nationally and internationally.

He is committed to using groundbreaking biomedical advances in surgical technique when shown to be effective, such as platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy and Xiaflex for Dupytrens contracture. In addition he performs endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery where he makes a small cosmetic incision and uses a camera and clear scope to release the carpal tunnel. More specifically he also addresses issues ranging from trigger finger, cysts and masses in hand, all upper extremity/finger fractures and injuries, pinched or injured nerves, tendonitis, elbow problems and shoulder arthritis; performing both total and reverse total shoulder arthoplasty. Dr. Guillen had the privilege of working with the world’s expert in Dupytren disease, Dr. Lawrence Hurst, where Dr. Guillen learned detailed technique for both open treatment and xiaflex treatment (closed injection treatment) for dupytrens hand contractures.

Dr. Guillen is also trained in Microsurgery operating on crush hand injuries, limb saving vascular repair and replantation of digits after being amputated, and repairing nerves tendons and arteries. He is also trained in complex tendon and nerve reconstruction for permanently damaged nerves and hands that have partial amputations. Performing surgery at two nationally known level 1 hospitals during his training, Dr. Phillip Guillen regularly treats patients who have suffered from complex upper extremity fractures.

Dr. Guillen is a humanitarian who has volunteered his medical knowledge to assist victims of such natural disasters as the earthquake in Nepal as well as spending time in Nicaragua.

Dr. Guillen is a family man who enjoys spending time with his wife, Alexa, and their son, Grayson. He cherishes the community feel of Midland and is overjoyed to be practicing in Texas, a stone’s throw from where his father was born and raised.
