Cold and Flu Season is here! Midland has seen an increase in numbers of
physician-confirmed cases of flu in the past few weeks.
Unlike symptoms of a common cold, flu symptoms usually come on
suddenly. It often starts with the abrupt onset of fever, headache, fatigue, and body aches. Here's a list of flu symptoms you
might feel:
- fever (usually high)severe aches and pains in the joints and muscles and around the eyes
- generalized weakness
- ill appearance with warm, flushed skin and red, watery eyes
- headache
- dry cough
- sore throat and watery discharge from your nose.
It is advisable for children to see a physician if flu is
suspected. Hand-washing and covering coughs is a good way to help lessen
the spread of this type of illness. We are also seeing many cases of gastrointestinal
illness; again hand-washing is one of the best ways to prevent
spread. Do keep children at home until ALL symptoms subside, and if
fever present, children should be fever-free without fever-reducing medications
for 24 hours. Thank you for helping us to keep our citizens healthy!
