Assistance for Employees
Options are available for employees to receive assistance during hardship times.  This can include financial, physical or mental abuse, martial conflict, alcohol or drug abuse or other personal problems.

Employee Discounts
Several businesses offer discounts to MMH employees upon presentation of hospital badge.  For your convenience the list is updated bi-annually.

Employee Benefits
Full and part time employees are entitled to a variety of benefits.  Several benefits are optional and employees must enroll within a week of employment or wait until the next Open Enrollment Period unless, they experience a status change or a qualifying life event such as a marriage, divorce, legal separation, etc.

AED
All Midland Memorial Hospital employees are required to complete AEDs annually by their anniversary dates.  These AEDs are completed using computerized modules.  Click on the word "AED" to log in.

Assistance for Employees

We understand that life can bring dreadful situations. As employees encounter a difficult period in their lives, Midland Memorial Hospital is here to assist in the course of the situation.

Below are a couple of assistance programs that are available to employees.

Catastrophic Assistance Fund
Designed to serve members of our hospital workforce during critical times in their lives, the Catastrophic Assistance Fund provides financial assistance to employees who have experience catastrophic circumstances.  Situations can range from a major personal illness, the serious illness or death of an immediate family member, or loss due to fire, tornado, storm damage, or any other catastrophic event which would be considered at the discretion of the Catastrophic Assistance Fund Committee.

All eligible participants may request assistance after three months of employment and must be in "good standing", and not in jeopardy of being suspended or terminated due to poor performance. Assistance is allowed once per year however, additional consideration may be given if a majority of the committee agrees that extenuating circumstances exist.

A completed application must be submitted with supporting documentation to the Chaplaincy or Human Resources Office.  Applications will be considered by the committee on a first-come, first-served basis.  Applicants will be notified as soon as a decision is reached.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
This program is established to assist employees deal with problems of a personal nature that can have an adverse effect on an employee's job.  The EAP is designed to address a broad range of problems such as alcohol or drug abuse, emotional or behavioral disorders, family relationships or other personal problems. The EAP staff is composed of trained counselors representing a variety of disciplines.

All Midland Memorial Hospital employees are eligible for these services and are also available to members of employee's household, providing that problems with family members can affect the employee's ability to function on the job.
Employees may pick up an EAP brochure which contains information such as telephone numbers, hours of service, and office location from the Human Resources office.

Tuition Reimbursement

(HR) Policy #405
Midland Memorial Hospital reimburses employees for courses leading to a degree in a healthcare or job-related field, or improvement in jobs skills, provided the instruction is not offered by Midland Memorial Hospital.  The assistance offered is for tuition, lab fees, books, activities, etc.

Eligibility
Full-time employees with a minimum of six (6) calendar months of service and part-time employees with a minimum of one (1) calendar year of service are eligible for tuition reimbursement.  They must be in good standing, maintain a "Satisfactory" job performance and have no active (previous 6 months) corrective actions, at the time of the request.
Employees must also be in good standing at the educational institution in which they are enrolled, maintain a "C" average and be up to date in payment.

Approval Process
Requests must be approved by the department head and a manager of human resources.  Reimbursement requests at the Master's and Doctoral level must also have approval of the appropriate vice president and the human resources vice president.

Payment Process
Reimbursement will be made upon presentation to the human resources benefits department with proof of expenses and a completed satisfactory certificate with a minimum grade of "C" or equivalent within 30 days after the end of the school term.
Midland Memorial Hospital will not provide reimbursement of eligible expenses that are also reimbursed by another source of financial aid such as grants, scholarships, or other governmental funds.

Work Obligation
Employees must sign an agreement stating they will work one hour of paid work for every dollar of tuition reimbursement.  Repayment hours begin when a grade is submitted for the reimbursed class.

If employees terminate prior to fulfilling this agreement, they must pay Midland Memorial Hospital the entire pro-rated amount of tuition reimbursement owed by the last day work.
