Cold or Flu?

December 4th- 10th is National Flu Immunization Week!

‘Tis the season for colds and flu, and Midland Memorial wants to help you stay healthy and happy during the holidays. The flu virus alone can cause serious complications and leads to more than 200,000 hospitalizations in the U.S. each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Your best defense against the flu is getting your annual vaccination, along with other steps like hand-washing and cleaning anything you come into contact with frequently. Flu season peaks in January or February and vaccinations are offered through March, but it’s best to get your flu shot as soon as they become available.

To keep from spreading a cold or flu if you’ve contracted one, wash hands frequently, cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands, and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.  Following these guidelines will help keep you and your family healthy and happy this holiday season, and long into the New Year!

If you need help determining whether you have the flu or a common cold, refer to the chart below and compare your symptoms.
