October
is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Midland Memorial Hospital
wants to remind you that awareness is key to beating this disease.
Here are 3 simple steps that can help you detect breast cancer
early, when it’s easiest to treat successfully.
First, Perform a monthly breast self exam. It only takes a
few minutes, and it may reveal the presence of a lump. Second,
get an annual mammogram. Most women should start annual breast
cancer screenings at age 40, but your doctor may urge you to
begin sooner if you have other risk factors. And finally, know
your family history. Ask your relatives if any women in the
family have had breast cancer, and whether it occurred pre-
or post menopause. The earlier the onset of a relative’s breast
cancer, the sooner you may want to begin screenings.
To help catch breast cancer before it’s too
late, follow these simple steps and see your doctor right away
if you notice any changes in your breasts. In addition to a
skilled staff of radiologists and mammography technologists,
Midland Memorial has the newest digital mammography units available.
